Questions we get
Do I need customs paperwork for Alaska?
Only if the load goes overland, because the Alaska Highway runs through Canada. The freight is still domestic, but it transits a foreign country, so it needs an in-transit manifest and a commercial invoice. We prepare both. Ocean shipments from Tacoma need none.
Is Hawaii or Puerto Rico freight international?
No. Both are domestic, so there are no duties or customs clearance. Each has its own port paperwork and, for Puerto Rico, an excise tax process for some goods, which we handle.
How far ahead should I book?
Standard containers: as early as you can, ideally a week or more before the sailing. Oversize, roll-on or flat-rack freight: several weeks, because space is limited and the port needs to plan the lift.
Can you move vehicles and equipment?
Yes. Cars, trucks, trailers and construction equipment go roll-on or on flat-racks. Fuel tanks must be near empty and batteries disconnected for the ocean leg. We’ll send the prep checklist with your quote.
Who is responsible if something is damaged at sea?
The ocean carrier’s liability is limited by law and is usually far below the freight’s value. We quote marine cargo insurance with every offshore move and recommend it on any high-value shipment.
